On 4th June 2011, we celebrated Gatti’s 50th birthday in the Narzissen Eck. Needless to say there was plenty of beer and lots of food! Everybody had a good time and the party was a great success. Sadly, this would be one of the last times we would see our good friend and neighbour Siggi Maass, who shortly afterwards went to start a new life in the Phillipines.
We only saw Siggi once after he left, when he made a short visit to Hamburg. Gatti, who had known Siggi for many years, stayed in touch with him by email. Eventually, we stopped hearing any news of Siggi and began to worry that maybe all was not well. Our worst fears were confirmed in October 2018, when we heard that he had passed away in the Phillipines due to a brain tumor.
