The Hafengeburtstag attracts thousands of people every year

Hafengeburtstag is a public event that usually takes place over the first weekend in May to celebrate the anniversary of the port of Hamburg (the largest port in Germany). The event attracts thousands of people each year, many of whom travel to and from the port from all over Hamburg using public transport. Needless to say, the U-Bahn trains in and out of the port are full to bursting on those days!

The weather forecast for early May 2016 was exceptional, so we arranged to attend Hafengeburtstag with friends from Gatti's work. The ship you can see in the picture was a visiting Russian sailing ship used to train sailors, and was open to the public for a small fee. We were lucky enough to get a place on this vessel, where we had an excellent view of the activities taking place on the river.

This was an excellent opportunity to practice my photography skills, and I have created a photo gallery using some of the best images.
